Position Overview

The Senior Network and Systems Support Specialist is responsible for the advanced design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the school's entire technology infrastructure stack. This role requires deep technical expertise, proactive system monitoring, and excellent customer service, with a specific emphasis on managing our Nutanix cluster (AOS/AHV) and Fortinet ecosystem, as well as advanced endpoint automation using Microsoft management tools.

Job Responsibilities

The Senior Network and Systems Support Specialist key responsibilities are as follows:

HCI Administration, Cloud Services and Endpoint Management (30%)

  • Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) Optimization: Deploy, manage, and optimize our Nutanix cluster (AOS/AHV) utilizing Prism Central for centralized monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Ensure the platform robustly supports all mission-critical applications and the personalized digital learning needs of our students.
  • Cloud Services: Manage and secure primary cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365/Azure AD or Google Workspace) for identity management and data storage.
  • Endpoint Automation: Develop and implement automation for device provisioning, patching, and policy deployment using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Intune.
  • System Health: Ensure the availability of critical school systems and manage backup/disaster recovery process and compliance.

Network, Security, & Voice Management (30%)

  • Infrastructure for Innovation: Proactively monitor and optimize network health, ensuring high availability (uptime) of all systems, particularly during critical instructional and academic program times. Focus on QOS to support real-time voice and video collaboration integral to modern learning.
  • Fortinet Ecosystem Mastery: Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot the full Fortinet security stack (Firewalls, Switches, APs, and FortiVoice UC to provide secure and high-speed access across all campuses, enabling safe, borderless learning.
  • Unified Communications (UC): Administer the FortiVoice platform, ensuring the quality and security of internal and external communications, reflecting our core value of professionalism and clear community connection.
  • Data Trust & Security: Implement, maintain, and rapidly respond to alerts from the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) platform and security infrastructure, upholding the school's commitment to protecting the integrity and confidentiality of student and staff data.

Systems Administration (30%)

  • Cloud & Identity Management: Manage and secure primary cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365/Azure, on-premises AD, or Google Workspace) to facilitate secure digital collaboration and resource sharing among students, faculty, and administration.
  • Digital Learning Provisioning: Develop and implement automation for device provisioning, patching, and policy deployment using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Intune, ensuring a seamless digital experience for students and educators.
  • Disaster Resilience: Oversee critical school systems (backup/disaster recovery) to ensure business continuity and the rapid restoration of services, safeguarding the intellectual property and administrative functions of the school.

Technical Leadership & Growth (10%)

  • Mentoring & Shared Expertise: Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point and enthusiastically mentor junior IT staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and shared expertise that aligns with the spirit of our internal professional development initiative.
  • Documentation for Continuity: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, runbooks, and SOPs for the Nutanix/AHV, Fortinet, and SCCM/Intune environments, ensuring long-term operational excellence.

Qualification & Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certifications (Strongly Preferred): NCP (Nutanix Certified Professional) and relevant Microsoft/Fortinet certifications are a significant plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years in complex systems administration, with direct, hands-on experience managing a Nutanix HCI Cluster.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise: Demonstrable, subject matter expert-level experience with Nutanix AOS, AHV, and Prism Central; deep proficiency in Microsoft Endpoint Management (SCCM and Intune); and strong operational knowledge of the Fortinet ecosystem.
  • Strong Microsoft AD and Azure background.
  • Familiarity with MDM (Mobile Device Management) solutions such as JAMF is a plus.
  • Expertise in macOS device setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Knowledge of Apple’s hardware ecosystem (MacBooks, iPads, and accessories).
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) and educational tools.
  • Basic understanding of network troubleshooting (Wi-Fi, VPN, user authentication).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, user-friendly language.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with a customer-service orientation.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for education and supporting student success.
