About Gulliver Preparatory School

Established in 1926 by Arthur Gulliver in Coconut Grove, Gulliver was likened to the prestigious academies of the northeast and initially attracted families who wintered in Florida. In late 1953, Marian Krutulis purchased the school. A pioneer in education, Mrs. Krutulis envisioned Gulliver as grand home where both students and teachers would feel part of a caring, inspiring family of learners. Over the course of 25 years, she relocated the school to Coral Gables, built an upper school for high school students in Pinecrest and achieved ‘Blue Ribbon School of Excellence’ designation by the US Department of Education. In 2000 Gulliver became a non-profit. Today, Gulliver Preparatory School serves approximately 2,200 students in Grades PK–12 on three campuses. Despite its significant growth over the last 60 years, Gulliver still upholds Marian Krutulis’ vision to maintain the physical and social-emotional health of its students and trains them to become people of integrity in everything they say and do. 


Job Summary

Gulliver Prep is looking to hire an ETIS Information Services Library Assistant to join our team of professionals. The ETIS Information Services Library Assistant provides daily support to the instructional program of the library with specific responsibilities for maintaining the collection, assisting with reader’s advisory, and circulation of all library books and materials.  The ETIS Information Services Library Assistant also serves to collaborate with the Information Specialists as they meet the objectives stated by the NAIS Guidelines of Professional Practice. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Welcome all students and teachers to the library and determines library visitors needs and works to fulfill requests. 
  • Maintain the orderly arrangement of books and materials.
  • Ensures cleanliness and efficient set up and break down of events; returns the library to order for optimal use with the help of maintenance staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the timely return of materials to the bookshelves.
  • Run weekly overdue notices and communicate with teachers and parents about outstanding items.
  • Evaluate books, media, and or periodicals for retention within the collection for maintaining an appropriate inventory.
  • Participate in workshops, in-service training, meetings, etc. in order to gather information required to perform the job.
  • Assist patrons with printers, copy machines, and other materials such as lamination requests as needed.
  • Process library books, periodicals, and related media materials to provide students and staff with required materials.
  • Assist teachers, students, and administrators to identify resource materials in support of the school curriculum.
  • Create bibliographies and gather reserve materials as requested.
  • Respond to inquiries from patrons regarding requests for orders and or programming suggestions.
  • Assist with annual inventory of books and equipment.
  • Assist with Book Fair and attend Book Fair Family Night. 
  • This position requires lifting at least 25 pounds. 
  • Additional duties as assigned, specifically during summer months. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 1-year experience in a library setting. 
  • Library Certification, preferred. 

Pre-Employment Requirements

Criminal Background Check, Level II Fingerprint Screening(s), and Drug screen.
