Position Overview

Gulliver Prep Middle School faculty are student-centered educators who create dynamic, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster intellectual curiosity, academic growth, and personal character development. They are compassionate professionals who understand the unique needs of early adolescents and contribute to a vibrant school culture grounded in data-informed improvement, community belonging, and high expectations for all. Faculty collaborate closely with colleagues, families, and school leaders to help every student thrive in alignment with Gulliver’s mission and educational philosophy.

The Middle School Math department is seeking individuals who may be responsible for teaching a combination of Grade 5,6, and 7 grade math along with more advanced courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 or Geometry.

Job Responsibilities

The Middle School Faculty key responsibilities are as follows:

Academic Instruction & Curriculum Implementation:

  • Plan and implement high-quality lessons aligned with departmental standards and school-wide curriculum goals.
  • Engage students through inquiry-based learning, project work, collaboration, and the integration of technology.
  • Use developmentally appropriate practices that promote deeper understanding, skill development, and curiosity.
  • Contribute to curriculum review and refinement in partnership with the Department Chair and fellow faculty.

Student Learning & Well-being:

  • Regularly assess and monitor student progress using multiple forms of data and provide timely, targeted feedback.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of middle school learners.
  • Foster a classroom culture that emphasizes respect, empathy, growth mindset, and student agency.
  • Participate as a teacher in the advisory program.
  • Partner with counselors, families, and student support teams to ensure all learners receive the encouragement and scaffolding they need to succeed.

Professional Growth & Collaboration:

  • Actively participate in team and department meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide training.
  • Reflect on practice and remain open to feedback through peer collaboration, and coaching and classroom observations from Department Chairs.
  • Complete required training and pursue professional development opportunities, including Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) courses when applicable.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration to build meaningful connections across subjects.

Community & School Engagement:

  • Serve as a visible and active participant in the life of the middle school, including attending events, chaperone events (including overnight trips as needed), run a club in student activities, and advisory programming, both during and after school hours where needed.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate regularly and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Help foster a diverse and inclusive school culture where all students feel known, valued, and supported.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject area or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Deep understanding of adolescent development and middle school pedagogy.
  • Strong instructional, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to promote a positive and collaborative professional culture.
  • Passion for education, student development, and professional learning.
  • Commitment to Gulliver Prep’s mission, values, and continuous improvement.
