Job Summary
Gulliver Prep is seeking passionate and dedicated educators for a variety of positions, including Primary & Lower School Counselors. The ideal candidate actively promotes the social, emotional, educational, and mental health and wellbeing of each child by partnering with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside professionals. They will provide strategies for prevention, intervention, and remediation to assist students and other members of the community in developing effective coping and problem-solving skills in response to their environments and interpersonal interactions.
The Primary and Lower School Counselor fosters a positive school climate so that all students from PK through 4th Grade learn to make good choices, collaborate with others in work and play, and navigate their world more effectively. The ideal candidate must be a keen listener and an effective problem solver. They should be organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks, as well as possess thoughtful communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Be an active and engaged member of the Primary and Lower School Team and collaborate with administration and faculty.
Provide initial short-term individual and small group support for students’ behaviors, social and personal concerns.
Monitor student progress, following through on action items and collaborating and consulting with faculty, administration, and families as needed.
Develop and deliver presentations for parents and students.
Attend and participate in meetings to discuss students in need of support.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in counseling, school counseling, school psychologist or related field.
Master’s degree and higher education and state licensing preferred.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in school settings and with SEL programs, such as Responsive Classroom and Second Step.
Have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a growth mindset towards collaborative problem solving and professional development.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Criminal Background Check, Level II Fingerprint Screening(s) and Drug Screen.
