Job Summary
Gulliver Preparatory School is seeking to hire an Upper School International Baccalaureate Programme Extended Essay and CAS Coordinator to join our team of professionals for the 2025-26 school year. The qualified candidate should be a dynamic and experienced teacher of academic writing to lead grade 11 and 12 students through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Extended Essay research process. The successful candidate will utilize Guided Inquiry and Design techniques to support students' academic development. Additionally, this position involves guiding students in their non-academic pursuits through extracurricular activities and community service projects, ensuring they meet the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirements of the IB diploma program.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and mentor students in the IB Extended Essay research process, ensuring adherence to IB guidelines and timelines.
- Teach research and academic writing skills, including various citation styles such as CMS, APA, and MLA.
- Instruct students on the use of research and documentation tools, including Noodletools, G-Suite, and Turnitin.
- Educate students on how to avoid plagiarism and ensure academic integrity.
- Guide students in the effective and permitted use of AI writing enhancement tools.
- Motivate and facilitate student inquiry, promoting independent and critical thinking.
- Set deadlines, track progress, and monitor student development throughout the research process.
- Oversee the CAS program, guiding students in their ongoing reflections and project development in areas of creativity, activity, and service.
- Evaluate and document program effectiveness, ensuring alignment with IB standards.
- Take an active role in the IB program admissions team by reviewing and evaluating applications.
- Support the implementation of IB examinations at the end of each academic year as a lead proctor.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the IB program, demonstrate a collaborative spirit, and possess a strong commitment to fostering the academic and personal growth of students.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven experience in writing and teaching research and academic writing.
- Ability to apply IB Extended Essay writing guidelines and manage timelines effectively.
- Proficiency in different citation styles (CMS, APA, MLA).
- Competence in teaching the use of research and documentation tools (Noodletools, G-Suite, Turnitin).
- Expertise in teaching how to avoid plagiarism and uphold academic integrity.
- Knowledge of effective and permitted use of AI writing enhancement tools.
- Strong ability to motivate students and facilitate their inquiry.
- Excellent organizational skills to set deadlines and track student progress.
- Experience with program evaluation and documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
Desired Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the IB philosophy, mission, and learner profile characteristics.
- Prior training in Guided Inquiry and Design (GID).
- Familiarity with CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) requirements and ability to supervise students' extracurricular reflections and project development.
- Experience with IB program implementation and evaluation.
- Team player with flexibility and a passion for working with young adults.
