Job Summary

Gulliver Prep is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach (seasonal coach role). This multifaceted role involves coaching the Upper School varsity team, overseeing and developing the basketball program at younger levels, and fostering a culture of growth and excellence within the boys’ basketball program. A full-time faculty position may be available in combination with the coaching role. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Coach the varsity boys’ basketball team, providing instruction, guidance, and mentorship to student-athletes.
  • Plan, develop, and conduct engaging practices that promote skill development, teamwork, and competitive readiness.
  • Identify and nurture talent within the Gulliver school community.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, school staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with our youth sports and middle school coaches to ensure alignment of coaching philosophies, skill development initiatives, and overall program goals.
  • Oversee the development of the boys’ basketball programming at sub-varsity levels, including clinics, camps, and skill-building sessions.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the recruitment, training, and development of assistant coaches and volunteers.
  • Foster a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, and academic achievement among student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and other school administration to promote the boys’ basketball program and enhance its visibility within the school and broader community.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, with a proven track record of success in developing student-athletes.
  • Strong background in teaching basketball fundamentals, practice and game planning, and overall team management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate players.
  • Dedication to player development and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to achieve program goals.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

 

Pre-Employment Requirements

Criminal Background Check, Level II Fingerprint Screening(s), and Drug screen.
