About Gulliver Preparatory School

Established in 1926 by Arthur Gulliver in Coconut Grove, Gulliver was likened to the prestigious academies of the northeast and initially attracted families who wintered in Florida. In late 1953, Marian Krutulis purchased the school. A pioneer in education, Mrs. Krutulis envisioned Gulliver as grand home where both students and teachers would feel part of a caring, inspiring family of learners. Over the course of 25 years, she relocated the school to Coral Gables, built an upper school for high school students in Pinecrest and achieved ‘Blue Ribbon School of Excellence’ designation by the US Department of Education. In 2000 Gulliver became a non-profit. Today, Gulliver Preparatory School serves approximately 2,200 students in Grades PK–12 on three campuses. Despite its significant growth over the last 60 years, Gulliver still upholds Marian Krutulis’ vision to maintain the physical and social-emotional health of its students and trains them to become people of integrity in everything they say and do. 

Job Summary

Gulliver Prep Middle School is seeking to hire an English Teacher for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year starting in January 2022.  Gulliver Prep students take two English classes with one period focusing on literature and the other on writing. The ideal candidate will teach sixth grade English Literature and Writing Lab classes.  The curriculum at each grade-level incorporates different genres and pulls from both classical and contemporary works from around the world. 

The middle school English department recently adopted Teachers College Writers Workshop, from Columbia University, experience with this curriculum is a plus! The qualified candidate would also take over an Advisory group that meets once a week for connecting activities and social-emotional learning lessons.  Candidates must also be adept at incorporating technology in the classroom and embrace 21st century teaching methods.  

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in English, education or related field and a minimum of three to five years teaching experience, preferably with middle school age students. 

Master’s degree is preferred.
